    Picture of an ACOUSTIC NEUROMA

To the left, just above the letters "aco" in acoustic, is the acoustic neuroma as it appears on a MRI scan of the brain with infusion. It is a pear-shaped tumor that appears white. Just to the right of it is the brain stem. Just below it is the cerebellum. To the left of the tumor is the ear canal.

It looks really nasty. What are the symptoms? Is it removable? How: surgically, or via certain therapy? Or maybe both?
From the name I assume it interferes with the ability to hear... I can't imagine having this thing in my head.
